I have been going to this shop for a while now. I was going to another shop in Huntington Beach, Mike & Val's, which I like, but their shop is just too far away. I run several businesses and have 3 kids, so time is important, and this shop is around the corner from my office. The most important things to me are good service at a fair price. I think these guys offer those in spades. It's clear that they want to fix your car in the most cost-effective manner possible, and they are always trying to make sure that you understand things that need to be done at some point as opposed to right away. One of the owners, Brad, worked for Newport Lexus for many years, so I felt comfortable bringing my LS to him, as he could understand the car and its needs. I also bring my wife's Pilot there. One story that is worth telling. My wife's Pilot would not start. AAA came out and said it was the starter. When I dropped off the car at the shop, they quoted me a very fair price for a new starter, and I told them to go ahead and do the work. After they checked further, they realized that there was an issue with the key (not simply a battery issue), and suggested I go to the dealer to get new keys first, as it may not be the starter after all. They explained that they wouldn't really be able to do much until they could start the car. The cost for this advice? Nothing, zero, nada. Turns out I didn't really need a starter after all, the new key from Honda did the trick. Another more recent story. They were working on my Lexus and told me it needed new cabin and air filters. I said fine. However, they only had 1 air filter (the LS takes 2 filters, apparently their have two separate intakes). I told Brad to hold off on replacing the 1, and that I would bring it back when he had both in stock so I could make sure they were replaced at the same time. Maybe a little OCD, but my concern was that I might not be back for another service for a while, so I didn't want to have this problem of replacing 1 filter at a time. By the time we discussed this, the mechanic had already put the 1 air filter in. Rather than take it out, Brad just said "Merry Christmas" and let me go on my way. Keep in mind, I don't go to a place just for free stuff, but I did appreciate the gesture, which is really more a reflection of how these guys are. I've spent thousands at their shop, and my cars are running great, which is really important to me. I don't want to try to save a few bucks and then wonder why oil is shooting out of my engine. Also, the waiting room has free drinks, wifi, cable tv and even a kids play area. Really comfortable if you have to wait, but they will drop you off as well if you are close by. A final thought - I've seen some negative reviews, and although I don't know the specific facts, I am surprised that things couldn't be worked out with the owners. They really strike me as reasonable, so I wonder what really happened there. I have been practicing real estate, business and probate/trust law for 24 years, I have a lot of experience dealing with both reasonable and unreasonable people, and these folks definitely fall into the reasonable category. Sometimes people have unrealistic expectations of what would be a fair resolution, sometimes things just escalate too much that there is almost no way to resolve things. I noticed that Brad offered to try to make things right after a few ranting reviews, so I think that says it all.
